You will find the schools in Charlotte County & Sarasota County to
be the finest in the State of Florida.
Charlotte County School District
houses over 17,000 pre-kindergarten through 12th
grade students. In our elementary schools, the
core of our studies is a balanced literacy program
that prioritizes reading, writing and mathematics.
Textbooks, hands-on materials, technology and a
wide variety of media are used as essential tools
in providing our students with appropriate
opportunities to learn.
Middle schools are organized into academic teams
at each grade level emphasizing skills and
concepts identified through the Florida Sunshine
State Standards. Special attention is given to
those skills required to fulfill Florida's state
testing requirements. Teaming provides a means to
collectively monitor the social and academic
development of students.
The high school curriculum provides both
generalized and specialized educational
experiences, preparing students for the
postgraduate endeavor of their choice - continued
education, military service or immediate entry
into the workforce.
Students at each grade level also have access to
several elective programs, including music, art,
physical education, chorus, technology, health,
foreign language and careers explorations.
Sarasota County's public
schools serve more than thirty-six thousand
students. With twenty elementary, eight middle and
nine high schools, Sarasota provides educational
opportunities for all -- from the challenged to
the gifted. The area is also home to a wide
variety of private schools of various
affiliations. Teachers in Sarasota County are
top-ranked; nearly eighty percent have
post-bachelor degree training which reflects in
our students. Every year, two-thirds of the
county's high school graduates go on to college.
In addition, Sarasota is proud to host seven
higher education institutions. University of South
Florida at Sarasota, New College (USF's honors
program), Ringling School of Art and Design, the
University of Sarasota, Eckerd College, Keiser
College, and Manatee Community College.
